The 431 Exchange Scholarship

The 431 Exchange provides an invaluable ‘hand-up’ to adults determined to transform their lives through education. The Scholarship Fund is open three times a year to adults ages 18 and older, primarily in Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, and Texas. Whether aiming for a college, university, vocational, or trade school program, top-scoring men and women are awarded $1,431, runners-up $431, helping meet some of their educational expenses.

Criteria

  • Scholarship applicants must be 18 years of age or older;
  • General scholarship applicants must be a resident of or have graduated from high school in Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, or Texas;
  • All scholarship applicants must be registered at a college, university, vocational or trade school that normally maintains a regular educational faculty, curriculum, and student body where its educational activities are conducted;
  • Scholarship monies awarded are to be used for educational program needs such as tuition, fees, books, supplies, equipment, room, board, travel, and/or research incidentals;
  • Scholarship applicants must demonstrate their financial plan for continuing education and contingency plans should unexpected needs occur;
  • Scholarship recipients must show proof of enrollment prior to accepting the award.

Application Guidelines

  • Complete the information requested about yourself;
  • Complete information about the year you graduated from High School or received your GED, and its location;
  • Complete information about any continuing education you have taken in the past;
  • Complete information about your plans for this school year, the school you plan to attend, its location, the major field of studies in which you will be enrolling, anticipated degree, and GPA;
  • Are you currently working 20 hours per week or more, will you continue when school starts;
  • Tell us about the educational program in which you have registered and how you plan to use it upon graduation;
  • Describe your financial plan for the duration of the educational program;
  • Tell us in an essay of 500 words or less, “I am proud of myself because…”
  • Complete the information requested for two referrals.
